RULES FOR ENTRANTS OF
SCIENTIFIC PAPERS
1.
Registered and student technologist who are members of the SDSRT are eligible for the Scientific Award Competition during
the annual meeting.
a.
Membership must be paid by JANUARY 1 of the current
year to be eligible for competition.
b. All others will be disqualified
2.
All papers submitted must:
a. Be
related to procedures done in the applicant’s department or
related to new procedures of interest to the general
membership.
b. Be original, in so far as, they have never been entered
into any competition or read at a State or National meeting.
c. Include an outline and bibliography page that clearly
identifies reference cited in the manuscript.
d. Include a list of all visual and audiovisual aids that
will be necessary in its presentation.
e. Not contain any marks of identification such as pictures,
references to doctors, film or x-ray companies, or hospitals
that can in any way present a clue as to the origin of the
author or the author’s department or training program.

Three copies of the manuscript must be:
a.
Submitted to the chairperson of the Scientific Awards before
February 1 of the current year. Please keep the
original copy, as no copies will be returned.
b. Presented in an orderly and logical sequence with a cover
page that includes only the title of the paper.
c. Double spaced and typed in standard manuscript style on
one side of high quality white paper with consecutively
numbered pages.
d. Accompanied with one title page that includes: Title,
Author, Address, place of employment or training and the date
completed.
4. All scientific papers must achieve at least 50 points on
content before being accepted for oral presentation.
5. Initial judging of the scientific papers will be performed
by a three member committee appointed by the scientific award
chairperson. The evaluation committee will have no prior
knowledge of the author or place of employment or training and
must not be affiliated with any training program within the
state.
6. Four student papers and three technologist
papers will be selected for presentation at the annual state
meeting.
7. Authors selected for award competition are required to
“READ” their papers at the annual state convention and must
notify the scientific award chairperson of any audiovisual
materials needed for presentation. Reading time shall not be
less than 10 minutes, nor longer than 20 minutes. The time
limits include showing of films, slides, and/or other
demonstrations.
8. All entrants will be sent a letter of congratulations or
regrets by the chairperson of the scientific awards
committee. Entrants will be notified at least two weeks
before the annual meeting.
9. Presentation of Scientific papers at the annual meeting
will be evaluated by two independent judges with the following
awards:
a. Registered Technologist & Students:
First Place ……….$100
Second Place……..$50
10. The
first place student winner will have his or her name engraved
on the Ethel J. Sullivan award plaque, which will be displayed
in his or her department for the current year.
