SDSRT Student Mentor Program

A.     Requirements for Application

a.       current ASRT student member

b.      current SDSRT student member

c.      first year student enrolled in a primary school of radiologic technology

d.      written letter of recommendation from their program director, including their support and  consent to attend all required meetings.

B.    Guidelines

a.       The student should have an interest in professional growth and in becoming actively involved in their professional organization.

b.      The student mentor will be required to attend the following functions:

                                                              i.      SDSRT annual conference (1st yr)to include:

a. pre-convention board meeting

b. business meeting

c. post conference board meeting

d. student paper presentation

                                                           ii.      Fall board meeting (2nd yr)

                                                         iii.      Winter board meeting (2nd yr)

                                                          iv.      SDSRT annual conference (2nd yr)

                                                             v.      ASRT annual conference (2nd yr)

c.      The student mentors will be recognized and honored at the    SDSRT annual conference awards banquet.

d.      Student mentors will be identified as board member interns.

e.      Student mentors will submit a scientific paper or exhibit for the annual conference their 2nd yr.

f.       Student mentor will submit a written summary of their experience to the SDSRT chairman of the board within 45days of the ASRT annual conference to include the following information

                                                              i.      what was most beneficial from the mentor experience

                                                           ii.      what will they do to keep actively involved in their professional organization

                                                         iii.      suggested improvements to the mentor program?

C.    Application Procedure for SDSRT Student Mentor Program:

a.       Student will submit their application and an essay on the topic “Why being an active member in a profession is important” along with their approval letter from their program director.

b.      The application will be submitted to the Sr. affiliate delegate no later than January 1st..

c.      The applications will be reviewed by the board of directors and one 1st year student mentor will be selected each year.

d.      Upon fulfillment of all required meetings the student will be eligible to accompany the SDSRT delegation to the annual ASRT House of Delegates meeting(shared hotel room and flight will be paid by the SDSRT). No alternate will be selected if this student is unable to attend.
